If you were setting up your own business, there would be several sureties when it came to choosing what to sell. Certain items have always been bought and they always will be. These ‘definites’ can be broken-down into two basic categories; the ‘essentials’ and the ‘luxuries’. In the ‘essentials’ we have such items as food, clothing and footwear. Whilst in the ‘luxuries’ bracket, products include CDs, DVDs and games consoles. But there is also quite a large overlap between these two groups. Some items may be ‘essentials’ but are available to us in a ‘luxuries’ format. And these products are, in many ways, the ones that appeal to us most of all. A very good example of this would be designer shoes. Footwear may be a necessity for most of us, but having a designer name attached to it is not. However far from putting us off from buying it, this actually helps to increase sales and makes footwear much more appealing to many consumers. If we need to wear shoes then we want them to be as nice as possible. It is the same principle as clothing, isn’t it? We need to wear it, but we would not want to go around dressed in rags or castoffs! When we take pride in our appearances, it is easy to understand why so many of us enjoy shopping around for new men’s or women’s shoes. We spend a lot of time wearing something nice on the rest of our bodies and our footwear is just as important to us. It may be a pair of smart shoes for a job interview or it could be something funky for a fun night out. Women are well known for buying lots of different pairs of shoes and men often just do not understand it. But shouldn’t we have good quality footwear to go with each of our different outfits? It’s just common sense if you think about it, isn’t it? Many of us get a great deal of pleasure from going out and treating ourselves to something new. And if we are going to do this, then isn’t it better that we buy something useful? Some people may think it is over-indulgent to have lots of different pairs of shoes. But it is certainly better than spending your money on something that will never get used. Shoes are like clothes and certain ones will go with a particular mood. We can put on a pair that is smart and sensible when we are feeling efficient or slip on a pair of casual-looking trainers when we are in a more leisurely frame of mind. So, if you enjoy buying new shoes, don’t beat yourself up about it and don’t let anyone else make you feel bad either. Even if you are always drawn towards the ‘luxury’ styles, they are still ‘essentials’ at the end of the day. Besides, there are plenty of people out there who spend their money on far less sensible things. . .
