I always dress nice any day of the week unless I’m doing the yard work or something of that nature. I take pride in what i look like no matter what the occasion may be.
Most people really don’t care what they look like at any given time.
Why I don’t know and really don’t care what they do It’s them not me.

I was thinking about that today as I watched people go to the local CAtholic Church dressed up like they were going shopping at Target.

Although a part of me likes this. I hate dress shoes and ties.

I do agree with your point.

Sunday Best is another of those old tired rituals or traditions that is going away quickly, was the norm or expected beginning sometimes in the late 1800s when churches started forming more often, and people started going to church. Few did prior to then, had to work seven days a week to stay alive. Once prosperity set in, social customs like church services became popular-ministers began to get paid because people actually had some discretionary money.
I remember only a few decades ago-60’s and 70’s most stores were not open on Sunday, though a few restuarants were, Then the malls and mega stores came into being, and suddenly most retail businesses found they had customers on Sunday. Another tradition, like dressing up for church. For those of us who don’t practice any religion, we dress up when the occasion calls for it. And that includes funerals or weddings in churches. Though recently I went to a funeral and most men did not even wear a suit, some were in polo shirts including the pallbearers. Looked strange.

My Sunday best is usually the jammies I wore the night before. Sunday is my lazy day and I rarely leave the house. However, I understand where you are coming from. Every once in awhile we go to a place here on our base that serves a wonderful Sunday brunch. It is rather fancy. We try to look halfway cleaned up. Usually nice jeans and shirts. The kids have to wear their good shoes. But so many people show up looking like they just rolled out of bed!!

Our neighbors are very religious and I’ve seen them dressed for Sunday services and man oh man do they look sharp. The mom and daughter are in fancy dresses and the dad and son wear suits and ties.

We’re pagan so I commune with nature and that is best done in the nude so I don’t need any fancy clothes.

people should dress up, i completely agree with you. Your thanking your lord and you wear cargo pants? i go to church with a nice skirt and an appropriate shirt

When we went to mass you had to pass inspection by your parents. Nowadays it's obvious that few people care what they look like in a house of God. Maybe we should just feel glad that the people go to church regardless what they're wearing, eh?

the way i see it is ig im going to church im there for GOD not anyone else. Im not going to wear a dress to church to please other pepole. And im not going to have specific shoes either
