I recently worked in this kindergarten class, with a 40 year veteran teacher. She told me that she does not tie shoes. If a child is unable to, we (teachers/aides) do not tie their shoes for them. They learn nothing. We can:
1. Have them ask another student.
2. Send a note home to the parent to practice with them.
3. Set time aside each day to practice with the student until they can tie their own shoes.

I agreed with her. We are educators, not shoe-tiers. If aides and teachers want to do that all day, they can be in child care or nursing instead. Prior to that, I taught in a 2nd grade classs where the aides were tying shoes. Now that I am more informed, I find it disturbing. What do you think?
At age 5 children are learing to tie shoes. It is not a milestone for 2nd graders. Soon enough, more kids will be coming up to get their shoes tied. For safety reasons, I will tie shoes until it interferes with the learning environment. Suggestions can be forwarded to parents to have them wear velco, buckle or slip-on shoes. Steps will be made to teach the unmastered skill of tying shoes in the classroom until it is accomplised. Some children need extra help.

i did my student teaching with first graders and it was quite annoying whenever i had to bend down every couple of minutes to tie shoe-laces. it took a lot of time out off content teaching, but i didn’t want to be held responsible for the students tripping because of loose laces. my master teacher’s suggestion: drill the students everyday to ask their parents to teach them how to tie their shoes OR use velcro shoes. my suggestion: do a mini lesson on shoe-tying (it worked with my three year old daughter).

I’m properly fed up of wearing big bovver boots… I can’t wear anything nice to work, just trousers. Is there anywhere that sells nicer, more feminine safety shoes?

You need some very sophisticated equipment special sewing machines and the shoe made in leather or synthetics will each be different again

I learnt through a factory and had to learn every step which took over a year to do each step
There is the technology in the materials that make up the shoes
modern shoes have special molds for making the out soles, then you need eye let machines and a host of processes from cleaning to finishing

there are companies in China that will make a shoe for you if you design it
However you Can’t walk into most companies and buy 1 metre of cloth sometimes you can only but rolls of 300metres at a time

We have some friends that where adults wear shoes in the house but kids have to take them off.Its not something I am keen on, I think everyone should be treated the same and either all take off their shoes or all leave them on. Do your kids wear shoes in the house?

No one wears shoes in our house – adults, kids, or guests. It just makes the house dirtier so much faster to wear shoes inside, imho.
Perhaps your friend feels the kids are tracking in mud or something?
